44 km walked and 193 Cores captured: I don’t see your point, mate. 🙂

You won’t be saying that if they reset everyone’s level in beta or on full release. Would you really want to be starting over?

In Ingress I walked 3,600 km until today, so I still don’t see a problem with reasonable requirements. And re start over: that will happen to everyone, no problem.

I think he’s trying to say the levels are not of equal difficulty. I doesn’t take very long at all to get l7 linear shorter (2 days maybe) but walking to l2 is much longer than 2 days, so presumable l7 is far far longer. l7 in invites (if l2 is 15) scales to a number that is probably not achievable after the first 6 month of gameplay. That is a massive pyramid where you quickly deplete the number of people to invite in a city (let alone getting them to l3).
Ingress had a similar issue in its initial medal set. Recharging was relatively easy and many people had onyx before l8 let alone l16. But other medals like resonators destroyed and deployed are on a whole different scale, most l16 players never get onyx. This is because the values are not proportional to the same amounts of normal play. This appears to have the same issues and probably needs balanced.

I partially agree.

I agree regarding that progress in some areas seems too steep (multiplied by 12 each rank for km walked? 😀 ) that may turn out not achievable and the requirements should be based on how much is achievable.

I disagree that they should be similar in terms of achievability because that is impossible. There are very different situations for players (many/few enemies; many/few cores; large/small distance covered daily) which lead to different gameplay styles.

And I have objections to “invite players” requirement in general. First, it is discriminatory to later players (who does not have much of remaining player pool available); second, it strongly suggests unethical ways of achieving it.

Exactly, @Cookie23. Apologies for not being quite clear, everyone else. Cookie23 said exactly what I meant. 🙂

I’m not asking for an easier game, not at all. Just more player-friendly. 🙂

Well, for me it seems that you are asking for quite easy game. Core captures is not hard. I just got second level Vortex generation and I’m casually playing in half empty city. If there will be many players, then getting the second level Vortex will be without effort and next level is 1070 captures. Nothing impossible. Could be a bit lower.

Your km suggestions are definitely way too low. Couple hundred kilometres can be done in a month with active play. I think the upper limit should be about 3-4 thousand km so that they are not easily reachable.

My biggest point is that it’s such a massive ask to get L2 Earthers. Kudos to you indeed for racking up the kilometres, but I don’t know how long you’ve been playing for. 😉
I don’t know. I just feel that 120km is way too much for the first landmark. Sure, my suggestion of 10 is probably too low, but it was an example. Perhaps, say, 15km > 30km > 50km > 75km > 110km etc.

I agree on the Loki, though. I can see it being exploited by people opening multiple accounts so easily.

On the topic of Linear Shorters, I understand the pain. I’m only on L6, but 1800 energy per generation is expensive. What would be nice would be retaining the ability to create lower level weapons. As in, upgrade Linear Shorters to L6 and still have the option of creating L2, for example.

What really is ridiculous is the Loki requirement: 15 invites. They really want me to invite everyone and his dog?

Anyway: you might be careful what you wish for. I only can generate L7 Linear Shorters. They are PITA in terms of cost/time to generate, cost to fire and cooldown time.

I’m not sure about anyone else here, but I feel that the requirements to upgrade certain weapons are just ridiculous and unrealistic. Example: walk 120 kilometres to earn the right to create level 2 Earthers. Fair enough, some of us will manage that in a few months of play. But what about level 3? Level 4? Next example: Vortex. We have to capture 320 enemy Cores to make level 2 Vortexes. Little high, perhaps?

It is when you compare it to requirement of level 2 Overloads – a measly 20 captures OR seeds. Capture any Core at all.

Some better figures would be something around 10km for L2 Earthers, then 20km for L3. Raise the bar in 10 or 15 increments. That way, people will be much more inclined to take a walk.

Same thing with Vortexes. In keeping with the current phrasing, level 2 could be capture 20 enemy Cores. Then 40, or even 50. Again, just raise the bar in slight increments. That said, I guess where captures are concerned, it depends entirely on what kind of core density we should be expecting in suburban areas down the track.

Either way, I feel reducing the requirement for Earther upgrades is highly necessary. Anyone else have anything further to add, or any thoughts on the subject?
